Invited guests and people wishing to attend the solemn military parade to mark the Georgian Independence Day on the 26th of May gathered in front of the House of Parliament on Rustaveli Avenue and nearby territory at 10:00. Military parade dedicated to this important occasion was opened at 11:00 with the appearance of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. The President received the report from the Chief of the Joint Staff of GAF Major-General Devi Chankotadze. At the event young Georgian singer Mariam Kakhelishvili performed the Georgian state anthem accompanied by the GAF Military Orchestra. After the Anthem president welcomed the guests and attendees and congratulated the nation on the Independence Day; Today, one of the oldest nations is celebrating the Day of Independence and its young sovereignty. This is the most precious day for the freedom-loving nation because nothing is more precious and tender, then the independence and the sovereignty of the nation, especially for the one, who endured a lot of invasions and occupations from the world empires. Though our nation resisted the adversary continually and went on existence with persistence and dignity. That is why we attach so much significance to this day. I can remember very few nations, having experience of fight for independence like Georgians, if any nation can understand the price of freedom, this is Georgian nation. I would like to congratulate once again on the Independence Day! Our nation is the most privileged nation as it now enjoys freedom. We are celebrating this event without fear of possible repressions from occupier. Listen to the sound of marching Georgian army and military hardware. This is not the sound of saber-rattling, my friends; this is the sound of heartbeat of the Georgian statehood. No matter how hard the enemy tries to stop this heartbeat, it will never manage to do it.
Following the welcoming address, Supreme Commander-in-Chief , Georgian President awarded the Batumi Marine Infantry Battalion personnel-Nuhzar Sharashidze, Mirza Kontselidze, Aslan Inaishvili, and Albert Khinkiladze with Vakhtang Gorgasali I Rank Order for their contribution to the build up and development of the country. Mikheil Saakashvili personally granted Presidential Order of Excellence to the Chief of Joint Staff of GAF Major General Devi Tchankotadze, Nino Ananiashvili, Nino Sukhishvili, Nika Vacheishvili, Alberto Domingo Kabo, Daniel Kunin, Lado Gurgenidze, Koba Nakofia, Khater Masadi, Aleksandre Bestavashvili, Ronald Akhalaia (prosecutor), Levan Aleksidze, Iulon Gagoshidze, Ronald Akhalaia (doctor), Niaz Diasamidze, Jemal Chkuaseli, Nani Bregvadze, Irakli Ezugbaia, Ramaz Nikoleishvili, Shamil Korkoshidze, Eka Zghuladze, Iliko Sukhishvili and Paata Burchuladze.
Following the awarding ceremony, solemn marching of soldiers began on the central avenue. Parade was led by commanders of military units. In total, 4325 infantrymen took part in the parade. The parade also featured communication and various types of armored vehicles (Humvee, Cobra, BTR-80, EJDER). Artillery subunits passed by military vehicles and a wide range of artillery systems (Msta-B, Geocint, RM-70, GRADLAR, DANA) were displayed as well. The parade was wrapped up by over flight of various types of helicopters (UH1-1H, MI-8, MI-24) and aircrafts (SU-25). Military servants marched on dressed in new military uniforms and accompanied with new military equipment as well. Any person could attend the military parade.
Towards the end of the parade, Minister of Defence Bacho Akhalaia declared that only certain part of the new combat equipment and uniforms was presented before the public, which turned out to be quite comfortable and easy to wear for the military servants.
During the parade, attending guests held a minute of silence to the memory of the president of Poland Lech Kaczyński, his wife and other Polish top officials tragically killed in the air catastrophe.
Among the invited guests were Catholicos Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II and Holy Synod; official representatives from legislative, executive and judicial branches, as well as from other state entities; Diplomatic Corps; religious confessions; families of hero soldiers; artists and sportsmen; Public Defenders Office; representatives of high educational establishments and business circles. Military parade dedicated to the Independence Day was also attended by family members of Mr. and Mrs. Kaczyńskis and acting officials of government of Poland.

После поражения они не в праве проводить парады. Это дерзкая выходка, они дают понять нам, что они не побеждены. Надо поднять в небо бомбардировщики и прекратить их парады!
