@USTUBE4000 its a lot harder today given the amount of power that u have to carefuly harness...we should never underestimate creativity

Holy crap! So tedious.

I think you have touched the point key of the modern battlefield in the media. How many times we listen SFX supervisors to declare: " TODAY THE ONLY LIMIT IS IMAGINATION"; CGI today seems one knife with double blade. The quality is different but with optical process SFX has consistence. It's enough to see the original Star Wars respect the digital edition, the original has the consistence of one Great Movie.

I think it's neither "less involving" or that we don't do it at all. An articulate matte is now a roto spline--and u still have to pretty much animate it a frame at a time. Instead of modeling puppets and use stop motion u have to model texture and animate a cg character. Compositing is the same-every piece of film is now a layer/node that has to be blended.

Ugh ... Sooo glad we don't do it that way anymore

I think that there was much more intelligent thought process back then just because of the complexities and range of equipment and technological know-how to produce complicated, as well as simple FX shots. With modern day digital cgi, while complex, it is somewhat less involving cognitively than during the optical FX days.

I completely agree. The modern effects I most enjoy are those combined with live action effects and CGI effects, used only to enhance the image and further suspend disbelief.
