"It was my first shift of my career. I saw Terry O'Reilly forechecking on one side and so I sort of faked like I was going to go that way and then made a little turn to go back around the net. I thought to myself 'I just faked out Terry O'Reilly!' ... just as I was thinking about what a great hockey player I was, John Wensink turned out the lights" -- Larry Playfair, discussing the above play in "The Best Game You Can Name"... great book

Shoulder? lol. Elbow to the dome.
-
Elbow straight to the head. That would've gotten Wensink a 15 game suspension if he did that today.
-
not even close to Chelios planting Propp's skull into the glass.
-
Maybe he figured the helmet would protect him ;)

@2382224 That was Playfair's rookie year, so he wasn't going to win that fight. Playfair lost to Second and Nystrom his rookie year, so he wasn't quite ready for Wensink. Playfair got demolished by Jimmy Mann the following season.
Had they fought both in their primes, Playfair destroys him the majority of the time.

clean check my ass. Playfair's teeth were stuck in the other guys elbow.

nice hit 'Sink

@Ruttobasilli your not supposed to cut across the middle of the nce with ur head down. Playfair was clearly staring down at the puck he was collecting. wensink came from a blind side (which is perfectly fine if not for the high elbow).
I think Wensick was waving security over
in case Playfair woke up......He paid later.
