This is the sound of the last machine on Earth dying.

Imagine a vast desert. In that desert, a single computer monitor lays on its side. Its solar panels are failing, its circuitry degraded and old. The programmed mind is decrepit and failing, errors and hardware malfunctions caused by sand finding its way into the casing.

This machine once commanded battalions of automated tanks and fleets of robotic gunships.

But no longer. The race of machines is extinct. Slowly, entropy and decay have claimed them all. The winds and rain eat away the solar panels. The heat and cold crack and melt tiny metal circuits.

This is the end.

The second extinction.

Not a cheery end to the story, but I like the way the music makes you think of a the last dying thoughts of a computer. And the piano at the end signifies that perhaps, in death, the machines finally found the humanity they had wanted.

When we are inflicted a terrible evil, it is human nature to choose whether or not we base ourselves upon the thing that beat us, and become the evil, or whether we reject it and fight it. Sadly, not enough people in the world choose option number 2.
