I've seen a lot of Triac upgrades to dimmers and Variacs used to control the heat of some homemade kilns and furnaces...what is wrong with using an infinite switch for a stove? They're cheap.....have no thermostatic function and are made to handle resistance elements 2000 watts, some of them double that. Am I missing something?

@FJoeForty To be honest I don't have a good answer for you. The triac/SCR style controller was recommended in the plans I based my design off, which specifically said that a stove controller wouldn't work. My only thought is that the element draws around 4000 watts (draws 18.5A @ 220VAC on average), but if you find a stove controller that can handle that I don't see a problem. (Disclaimer: I'm not an electrician or engineer, please don't take anything I say as advice)

i really like the pop can ingot im going to do that from now on its easy but what is that box connected to your foundry does that convert mains to 240v? also can i use the heating coil from an oven to power a foundry just use some thing toat is form fiting to my crucible?

@panzuman I wired a 240VAC circuit directly from the main panel in our house going to the garage, specifically for powering the foundry as well as for powering my MIG welder. The box contains a circuit for controlling the temperature. I explain on my website (see the description for the URL)
