We are teaching Nina to lower her head into the halter so that a child can halter her easily. Even at 11h, Nina is too tall for most children to halter on their own. Most children really want to be able to halter and tack up their own pony, so we use clicker training to help make that dream a reality. All the child has to do is hold the halter just above the ground, and Nina will put her head right it.

Thanks for putting the clicks in. That is helpful.

This is such a cool video. People always underestimate the importance of haltering. It's the first thing you do to them and it sets the tone for the rest of your day. I don't think it does any good to clicker train the rest of your horse's skills if they aren't clicker trained to halter. If they feel forced in that first interaction they will feel manipulated, if not forced into everything else.
