Maggie was his next door neighbour when he was a child in Scotland.
She was a strong girl, as he said "First you beat me up, Then you kissed me too"
Unfortunatley when Colin Hay tryed to find her, He spoke to her mother and she had announced Maggie had died years ago. He was so shocked. He said this is the only song he has ever done that made him actually cry whislt writing it.
