My (extended) submission to BP's contest to send 50 people to Antarctica. Final version was edited to under 2 minutes.
"We would like you to record a short video presentation. The presentation should be no more than two (2) minutes in length. You must be the presenter and the recording should be a head and shoulders shot of you speaking to the camera on a topic of your choice.
The topic you choose does not have to be linked to Antarctica, climate change or energy security. You will not be penalised if you decide to speak about a topic thats unrelated to the expedition. However, we do want you to choose a topic that you are passionate about. This could be a favourite sport or pastime, a destination youve travelled to, a friend or family member or a subject thats recently been in the news. The choice is yours!
What will the judges look for?
The judges will be looking for the following:
· Innovation and creativity although this does not mean that your video presentation has to include any special lighting, effects or sound.
· Passion and enthusiasm.
· Professional communication skills. You should use the two minutes thoughtfully and consider how you can address the key points in a clear and engaging manner.
What should you talk about?
You may wish to structure your presentation to include the following points:
· Your name, where and what you are studying, your age and nationality;
· The title of your chosen topic;
· Why you feel particularly passionate about this topic;
· How this topic affects you in your day to day life;
· How, if at all, your life may have changed as a result of this topic. Are there any amusing, inspiring or interesting anecdotes that you can share?
· How you may have influenced others so that they are also passionate about the topic."

I'm afraid not. . . I didn't know anyone else that got into the second stage of the application process.

Unfortunately I didn't get in with the application, but 50 qualified lucky devils get to head down to Antarctica and have an amazing experience. I'm happy for them, they're going to have a great time.
