Well, the best type of movement you can have on a knuckleball (or most pitches, really) is a quick, late downward break.

That's how you miss bats.

I can't really throw one, but I'm pretty sure the guys who do are trying to get them to break downward.

That can make them look a bit like a gravity curve, but they move more erratically than that.

Believe me, if this pitch wasn't for real, big leaguers wouldn't throw it!

@stuart1648 It's just an awkward angle in the vid, not to mention slo-mo. When thrown properly and in the "sweet-spot" speed (65-70mph) it will mysteriously dart and change direction.
