  • if you plan to breed more you should give her a cave to move her fish into she will lay more eggs and you will have more baby fish that are healthy not to mention a less stressful parent which is why your babies / eggs were most likely eaten. or if this was her first time laying the eggs... it happens mine apistos did that their first 2 spawns.

  • Thanks, it was the first time and i only had her for a week when this happened. i already put a half of a coconut shell now but they did not make any attempt to breed since that first time. it seems they are not interested. maybe it is the temp or waterquality the ph is pretty high 7.5 and temp pretty low at 24c degrees. i will try to optimise contidions for breeding soon.

  • @outsideurwindo This is great to read. I am trying to breed these apistos in a 29 gallon. I have heard that the cave works well. I have breed only convicts before soo..76 degrees and a lower PH eh? I'm excited because I have natural daylight in the morning which I think will help. Any tips on diet? if you can tell me what species this is too that would be sweet. Great info

  • my pair spawns once a month no later and no sooner than 3-4 weeks apart it just takes some time. also the first time i had them spawn they were in a ph of 6.5 and the second 7.0 and then i let it slip up some more and it was 7.8 and they spawned but they had spawned fewer eggs with my higher ph. but i still am enjoying my 20 little babies swimming around. my water temp stays above 76F and stays below 81F degrees. they are really hardy fish if you hvae any more questions just keep replying
