Punkin is actually Waacking but the old school version. Punkin' is the original name of the dance. Waacking is a name set forth by the newer generation that mixed in movements from locking. Some Locking style dance instructors eventually started to teach Punkin' and newskool Waacking classes also. Many new dancers assumed that it was part of the Locking style.

Afaik know thats not true. Like aquatine said, waack and vogue started at different places; and they have a diff history. Waacking: early seventies (theres an interview w/ Tyrone Procotr on YouTube; search it!), whereas the roots of voguing go back til 1930s ballroom dances. The Garbo was a dance where you imitated poses, but it lead to Vogue, not to waacking.

What you call punking is actually shway, since shabba-doo started to integrate locking into waacking. Running out of characters lol

My opinion about it: it's about the same thing, but wacking is softer and more feminine. Punkin is more strong, and made more with a 'punch' in it by straight people.

how can they start together when vogue started on the east coast and waacking started on the west?

the differences that i have learned is that waacking and voguing started together. they were the same dance, then went diff ways. now you see a major difference in them, but originally they were both based on posing. waacking began by imitating famous stars such as greta garbo.

punking was the straight version of waacking. you maybe could describe it as a mix bt waacking and locking. waacking and punking have some of the same moves but are generally a different dance.
