An example of a product developed for a specific medical application is Aerotech's HermeSys™, a holistic design that optimizes all aspects of the cardiac pacemaker hermetic seam welding process. Specialized mechanics are used to accurately position the cardiac pacemaker during the laser welding process. Onboard kinematics allows the programming of laser weld geometry in part space for rapid optimization of process parameters on the machine (no post-processing required). Finally, a reference design is available for an automated material handling system to ensure that the part load/unload cycle can keep pace with the optimized cardiac pacemaker laser welding process.
