Nice engine but will it last. Or will it become a maintenance pig. Turbos and multi cams and all the high tech gizmos are bound to malfunction

those (de)phaser pulleys remind me of renault's ... are they as uneliable and catastrophic as renault's OR not?

At least Ford is leading the way because it is first American Automotive company to apply the technology with turbochargers for reduce displacement and increased horsepower, torque, and efficiency and is applying it to all of there future vehicles.

If you have any doubts see Ford's F150 Ecoboost TORTURE TEST here on youtube. Turbochargers are very reliable, the problem in the past was keeping the bearing well lubicate. This problem has been solve by better oils and bearing surfaces. Turbos have been use on Class 8 trucks (18 wheelers) for over 40 yrs most lasting well beyond a million miles. Also most diesel powered trucks today are TURBOdiesels. A Turbocharger use the same exotic metals that are used in jet engines.

I don't know how well other engines are doing but my 2001 Ford F150 4.2L V6 has now clocked over 251,000 original miles. Only thing that is not stock from 2001 is spark plugs, wires, coil pack, serpentine belt, intake gaskets, tires, brake pads, xmission fluid and filter, oh yeah changed speakers to rockford fosgates. It still looks good for a 10 year old truck!

@MrSkantron thank you finally someone else that sees the truth . and I'm american , dont forget Bmw bringing back the small turbo instant torque 3.0 v-6 3-4 yrs ago and toyota had variable valve timing since 1990

@jetman1979 Ford is lagging on there 'high tech gizmos'. Nissan has been running all this technology since the early 2000's and started using variable cam timing even earlier. Motors like the VQ series last over 200,000 miles and get great gas mileage and hp. Its about time ford came into the 21st century.
