Small fascinating animals which are able to fall into cryptobiosis if surroundings get worse... And of course so cute, with their look of small bears.

  • This "damn black thing" is a piece of moss. They're living in there! And it's not as if we had not tried to push it away with a needle... ;)

  • i have found not to use distilled water, that is if you want them to blow up. you can use tap water and let it sit for 24 hours than soak your bryophytes. I live in the pacific northwest and i have found them in large numbers in, Rhytidiadelphus squarrosus. does any one know of any other moss that contains an abundance of tardigrades in it?

  • :)

You can find them with these steps:

    1. Get some moss and soak it in well water or rainwater

    2. Squeeze The moss on top of a small dish water will come out

    3. put the dish under your microscope with atleast 100x maginfication and look around you might find a tardigrade!
