@Rayxl1 You might as well just sit on the shore and watch your boat
-
Is it working? I didn't see the boat move.
-
@Rayxl1 if a boat goes over though..... i would not want to be in the water with a bucket of acid
-
wrong battery

High tec stuff is ok, and i think it,s minnkota that has the r/c button stearing, but if you drop it in the water, and it goes poof! or you just cant find it, then what? gadgets are kewl but i like simple. my hand control was only made because of space in the toy boat. i really wanted to do a pedal on each side. so i could sit comfy and steer. you cant get anything cheaper than a spool of round weed wacker line. and it makes exclent cable, it dont break or stretch or rust. whole frame 4 50$
why are you using car batteries and not sla's?

@fairyheli2 You can pick them up from auto wreckers quite cheaply and they the job well enough.

Rayxl1 thanx for the reply, it,s fun to tinker, but why reinvent the wheel, many a trooling motors are found real cheap all so. most of the old ones are well built, but used a coil winding in the case. and it would short, or open and leave the motor with one speed. the battery drill,s switch is really a valuable item, and usefull as it will give you controll of speed/direction. My next project is a boat with a fan blade mounted to a t/m. and foot activated switches for speed and direction, a toy

@advthinker I might do a radio controlled system so I can sit forward facing holding a small cordless control module for steering and the other controls with a radio link to the outboard. That would probably be the ultimate!

Great job on your homebuilt motor! I have lot,s of drill motors, can buy them at yard sales for a dollar. i buy them for the speed controll switches. i buy trooling motors and use the drill switch , then i can controll speed, forward and reverse all in one shot. one thing great about a electric drive is you can sneak up on the big fish. and enjoy god,s creation with out the noise and smell.

@advthinker I like small boats for the reasons you explained and yours looks even smaller and more manoverable than mine. I've had to upgrade the motor to a car radiator cooling fan motor as the drill motor wasn't powerful enough for this boat. Many battery drills get discarded when the batteries fail which is wonderful for people like us!
