MPs are to debate government proposals to change the law on the use of human embryos. Are we right to use embryos stem cells for research?

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill has been designed to bring existing laws on fertility treatment and embryo research into line with scientific advances.

The use of hybrid embryos, made from human and animal DNA and the development of embryos to become "saviour siblings" are some of the most controversial elements of the bill.

The bill has attracted condemnation from the Catholic church and several Catholic ministers and MP's have opposed some of the plans.

Is stem cell research the future for medicine or an attack on human nature? Should parents be allowed to have children for the purpose of saving an existing child?

  • Maybe I'm fucked up, nut there are enough people on this planet. GO SCIENCE!

  • Yes.

  • And people still think that the witnesses who saw mothman and the chupacabra were crazy.

  • The fact is that embryo research has been stopped in the rest of the world because embryos are too volatile and cannot be coaxed in one direction. Ten years has produced nothing. OK perhaps it is not long enough. What I have told my MP is that in ten years time when the scientists come back for more changes in the law she should vote against any further waste of money. It is all about British and Britain leading the way.

  • People like you should be refused treatment when scientists begin utilising the full potential of embryonic stem cells. Just because you're too ignorant to realise their potential or recognise that they are still an incredibly new science shouldn't save you. Of all the shit our tax money is wasted on this is one of the few noble causes. I'm so relieved the bill passed.

  • This could be a reasonable debate if the scientists after over 15 years had actually achieved something. All they do is experiment and go nowhere. Medical cures - nonsense. Adult stem cell research is achieving in this field. So stop giving these wasters taxpayers money. As scientists they are useless.
