This is the video of our original rig used to motorize the Water For All "Baptist" low cost well drilling method used for many years in Bolivia. A pic of this has been up on www.geocities.com/h2oclubs for many years. We have drilled hundreds of wells with this rig. Uses a 3 hp motor. A Variation was recently made recently by a WFA trained Carlos Cruz working for now Danny Beams in Bolivia. The WFA drilling technique is unique in that it is the only one that uses "plastic" pvc drill stem making it possible to drill manually or motorize with a 3 hp motor. Over 2,000 wells in 8 countries on 4 contintnets have been drilled with this technique so far. Wells to 350 feet have been drilled with motorized rig aand to 250 feet with manual drilling. The technique was developed by Terry Waller in Africa and Bolivia. See www.waterforallinternational.org or www.geocities.com/h2oclubs/ for more info.
@1framistan Wow! all incredible technical challenges !Duh lift the bit with a winch,hand powered or gas /electric ,cable tool to lift the dirt or mud pump, clay or casing to stop wall collapse, You must be joking ,you think mining is any easier? I think the Chinese figured out how to drill a few thousand years ago. It's a HOLE,don't try to make it anymore complicated than it is.

@davetileguy
Digging a hole in the ground looks easy, but it isn't. Digging a 2 foot hole is easy, but digging down to the groundwater is a big challenge. How do you lift the drill bit when it weighs a hundred pounds? How do you clear away the dirt at 100FT? How do you drill through a sandy layer when it keeps collapsing when you remove the drill? How do you drill through rocks? Etc etc. Hope that answers your question.
