My version of Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot.

Carl Edward Sagan was an American astronomer and astrochemist and a highly successful popularizer of astronomy, astrophysics, and other natural sciences. He is world-famous for writing popular science books and for co-writing and presenting the award-winning 1980 television series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, which has been seen by more than 600 million people in over 60 countries, making it the most widely watched PBS program in history.

During his lifetime, Sagan published more than 600 scientific papers and popular articles and was author, co-author, or editor of more than 20 books. In his works, he frequently advocated skeptical inquiry, humanism, and the scientific method.

He attended the University of Chicago, where he received a bachelor's degree (1955) and a master's degree (1956) in physics, before earning his doctorate (1960) in astronomy and astrophysics.

Sagan lectured annually at Harvard University until 1968, when he moved to Cornell University. He became a full professor at Cornell in 1971 and directed the Laboratory for Planetary Studies there. From 1972 to 1981 he was Associate Director of the Center for Radio Physics and Space Research at Cornell.

  • Thank You.

It was actually your rendition that I first saw the Pale Blue Dot and what an amazing man I came to learn about. Thanks again.

  • Carl Sagan now has a posse. A wonderful tribute. Favorited.

If you want to, have a look at my home-brew Sagan-related vidoes shot in his adopted hometown of Ithaca, NY.

  • I have, nice work.

    Sagan is not forgotten,....only missed

  • This now a fav..I have been a fan of Carl since the Cosmos series was shown on tv in the 80's in Aust. He opened my eyes to humanisim and to reject religion, to look to the universe as it really is. For that Carl will never be forgotten by me...THank you

  • Come back, Carl. We miss you. We need you.

  • Imagine how much better our world would be if everyone watched this video, or even just read this quote.

  • This is FAR more appropriate than bronze age myths from goat herders

  • "Every human being that ever was, lived there - on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam." That line gets me every time

  • Much like the poetry of the Genesis creation story was read during the Apollo 8 mission, this should be spoken either on our next foray to the moon or our first to Mars.

  • Great vid. Thanks

  • Beautiful. I've seen many homages to Carl & his pale blue dot but this is one of my favorites.

I truly miss this great man.
