Tornadoes have their own unique patterns of air and temperature flow, but researchers believe the surrounding atmosphere also provides clues into the heart of the storm. With GPS-rigged balloons, they can examine the dramatic changes on the fringe of a tornado. Digital journalist Brian Pollack was there for a test run.
