In What We Watched, Derek the Bard investigates the WEIRD premises of the cartoons of his childhood.

This episode, we look at the 1986 Sunbow Productions show, Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light.

No challenge is intended to the copyright holders of the materials used. This show is produced under Fair Use and is purely for entertainment purposes.

...also, can we PLEASE have Visionaries on DVD in Region 1? Seriously.

  • Dude, that was so funny. You really took me back to my childhood there. Another thing that seems strange about this show is that the language used seems a little too advanced for the average 10 year old. Maybe its just me on that one.

I wonder if you remember a show called Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors. I be interested to see what you make of that.

  • @redwesteastnorth I remember it, and its on the list, but its a bit of the ways down so it may be another few months before I get to it. The latest episode (Toxic Crusaders) just went up today. Next week will be Bravestarr, and the week after that, M.A.S.K. After that...I have some DVDs on the way, so chances are either Defenders off the Earth, King Arthur and the Knights of Justice, Bots Master, or possibly a series of shorter episodes showcasing some weird Ghostbusters or GI Joe.

  • I am starting to think hasbro wanted to make a quick buck, sunbow had some drug tripping to do and well this got made

  • @fatfoxclown If you want to see something even screwier that Sunbow/Hasbro produced back in the same year, check out my review of Inhumanoids. It has possibly one of the most bizarre moments in 1980s television. Even more so than Dawn of the Sun Imps.

  • Actually, for those interested, the next four episodes (one every 2 weeks), will be:

    -Conan: The Adventurer

    -Toxic Crusaders

    -Inhumanoids

    -Bravestar

In future episodes I'll also be looking at M.A.S.K., Defenders of the Earth, Galtar and the Golden Lance, BotsMaster, Dinosaucers, and more!

  • Saw this series also... as a kid. Taught me that there as some obstacles that I need to cross, before I could grab power. Nice to see this on youtube. Thanx!

  • @Kasay You're welcome! :) Glad you liked it. There is more to come!

  • One word sums up this show... AMBITION! This is why I swear by the stuff I watched when I was a kid. Sure, it doesn't always add up, but this show was awesome! Cool character designs, an attempt at continuity, and all the best voice actors of its day. I completely forgot about their weird incantations. Your video is win. Thanks for the memories!

  • I loved this show and also loved the job you did on this vid - subscribing :)

  • @DerektheBard i disagreed with the Leoric's power staff suck, i think its the writer trying to show us sometime you don't really require brute force to over come the problem, but simply use your head. writer trying to show Leoric not only brave, strong, but also smart. a quality of a leader.

my brother(when he were young) also suggest that use Arzon's power of knowledge to solve the wisdom's riddle and be done with it(although i admit its a bit waste.)

  • I loved your toxie review, good stuff keep it coming

  • If I remember right, several years went by after the alignment of the suns and all the technology ceased functioning. That would explain how the civilizations of Prysmos regressed into a sort of Medieval-like world.

To anyone reading this; don't be so quick to laugh at the concept. I learned that if technology somehow did stop functioning, human kind actually would regress backwards.

Thankfully my family and I are all farmers and it wouldn't effect us that drastically

  • You forgot to mention the incantation for Arzon's staff: "A whim, a thought and more is sought. Awake my mind, thy will be wrought." But you're right, all of the knights magic words sound awesome.

If Galadria received a power staff, I think her power could've been healing. I think the best spell for that would be "Be it arrow tip or steel blade, let this noble warrior's wounds all fade"
