Silent this video and listen to Five Years by Bowie and truthfully tell me you don't tear up. :/

@hswwer Sure, but for my money Darby didn't really have much of anything going for him as a vocalist, per se - on the other hand, as Shane West proved so definitively, these songs are for Darby and Darby alone to communicate. The most eloquent, evocative poetry in punk wouldn't sound nearly as pretty if it weren't snarled incoherently over the music :)
Now, if that's not the fastest response time to a comment you've ever seen, I don't know what is.... :P

It's all up in the air really. By most standards, Darby was not a great singer. Like if you are comparing Freddie Mercury to Darby. However, Darby was a great singer in a league of his own. I mean you have to admit, his singing is pretty unique. It is pure raw emotion. Isn't that what singing is all about? In my opinion, any singer who can convey that level of emotion is a good singer to me.

Darby was drop kick material ... zero charisma, just a sad junkie. The best thing to come out of the Germs was Don Bolles who went on to play with the truly dazzling 45 Grave.
"Darby was a great singer, his lyrics are pure poetry"
Pretty sure only one of the above statements is true.

This right here is what you think of when you hear the word "Punk".
The Germs define it.
