Most of my adult life, say the last 10-12 years I was using heroine and crack quite chaotically and through that I became homeless was offending, in and out of prison didn't really have a purpose in life other than where my next hit was coming from.
At the moment I'm working with Lippy People making short films around social change, voice and influence giving people an opportunity to tell their experiences, their stories raise issues that are important to them. I got involved with Lippy People when I was approached to make a short film to tell my story of my experiences of being homeless, into substances. "We are in this location as it is the first place that I slept rough when I found myself homeless". Then through that I was then given the opportunity to help other people, go and give them the same opportunities that I'd had.
So on the Social Firms UK project I have been involved from the start, it was the first project that I was given to run with from the start which was an amazing opportunity for me professionally to be given that. I got all the consents together all the pre-production stuff, got all the paperwork in order and liaised with the companies we were going to film with, make sure that people were comfortable with what we were doing, what its about. Also with the editing as well in the studio putting the films together getting the stories in order and adding on a creative side of things.
Being a part of Lippy People has made a massive difference to my life, it has given me a purpose something to get up for in the morning. If you had said to me a year ago in a years time you'll be editing films and working doing this I would not have believed it. I have a lot more confidence now and my history isn't an issue.
