The growth of Chinese and Indian economies is improving their well being, but at a very high environmental cost. Widespread air pollution and greenhouse gases are having a range of complex effects on both regional and global climate. Join Scripps Oceanography atmospheric science researcher V. Ramanathan as he explains that while science can offer practical solutions, the effectiveness of these strategies will hinge on global cooperation and immediate implementation. • We need solutions.....

  • He is an asshole who carries out stupid research. makes money and fame by ditching his motherland. How come tiny cooking smoke is bigger than oil and industrial pollution created by developed world. cooking by woods/cow-dug is natural that will happen anyway by decaying the same. Brown cloud is being created by coal mines in China. This guy has to do proper research. He gets funding to make publication to ditch India and China and there by relieving US from global warming responsibilities.

  • Dissolved CO2 makes acid.

By 2100, at current rates of increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide, average ocean pH will drop 0.3 - 0.4 and be @ 7.8 with an increase in acidic H+ ion concentration of 150-200%.

That will cause a 50% DECREASE of ocean carbonate ions (CO3).

Carbonate ions are needed for growth by plankton & corals at the base of the ocean's food chain.

    Oops!!!

For info. on CO2 ocean acidification check:

  • In just FIVE YEARS between 2004-2009 thick perennial arctic sea ice DROPPED 42%. This was discovered by NASA satellite measurements. Reported 7/7/09

Global Warming is changing our world NOW. CO2 is 35% above levels for 650,000 years. In just 30 years CO2 will be over 450ppm, enough to acidify oceans to the point of stopping the growth of many planktons and corals. They are at the base of the oceans' food chain.

  • i already invented the solutions to air pollution and global warming watch my videos

  • CO2 has nothing ot do with the weather! Solar cycles, clouds and atmospheric dust do.

  • Climate change is another name for 'weather'. GW was just PR from nuclear power. THe wordl started coolnig in 2005, hence CC.

  • regardless, what does weather changes have to do with climatic changes? Outside my window? Which is relevant as a point of reference? please? tell me as if i do not understand....

  • Strikes me, and I've been weathering the seasons for a long, long time, that the weather has been most odd for many years. Just like scientists indicated it would in the 1960s and 1970s. Please refer to UC TV's about American's Denial of Global Warming. That too is a most interesting video and helps put this in historical perspective. Thank you for presenting the lecture.

  • Typing error: 'Naturally occuring'... THe wordl has been cooling sicne 2005. CO2 gives us the next ice age!
