Ayers was in fact locked up. Google his image and you will see his booking photo. He admitted to bombing the New York City Police Department headquarters in 1970, the United States Capitol building in 1971, and the Pentagon in 1972. People died from the bombs he and the Weather Underground made.

Seems to me Obama is really about US capitalism benefiting more Americans and decreasing poverty - so that capitalism becomes a more credible model of organising society than it has appeared under the Bush administration.
That would undermine the critique of capitalism - not a clever thing to do if you are really a communist...
