Avatar Days - Full 1080p HD (World of Warcraft Machinima)

This is short film directed by Gavin Kelly ( http://www.piranhabar.ie ) I worked on a while ago called "Avatar Days". What makes this one special is the fact that it was filmed, vfx'ed and comped all in just 4 days. It was made as part of the "4 day Film" catagory in the Darklight Film Festival.

It follows 4 MMORPG players taking about their online persona's. As they tell their stories we see them go about their everyday lives against the mundane backdrop of city life...but as their Avatars.

There was a team of people on this with director Gavin Kelly leading the troupe. I worked on the 3d characters along with John O' Connell and Will Sharkey.

John O' Connell was 3D Lead.

this is way pro, but sad and laughable are the best two words that comes to mind when I think about the narrative that tries to relate WoW characters to real people by saying "we're the same" or something along those lines.. figures they're RPers.. btw IT IS actually escapism if you're comparing the reward value and/or consistency of your achievements in the game to real life achievements and efforts and saying life is not gonna always reward me like the game rewards me.. sad indeed..

I remember the original World of Warcraft, I remember wandering around Westfall looking for harvesters in order to get oil and barley and gears for me to sell or trade in for ale, now I am unable to complete that quest now that the hops are no longer there in-game in Cataclysm. it's just depressing whenever I pass by the Saldean Wagon and see Blanchy and the Saldeans not there anymore, they gave me that sense of adventure that made Westfall just so interesting to me as a place where I can go to.

Only people who don't play the game and like it can hate on it. But what people don't know is, it's your own time and body. If you want to play world of warcraft to that extremity then go ahead.. Some people use this as a way to escape the hardships of life. Well. If you need to do it then do it. Just know theres never a time where it's too late to come back.
