I searched for one of these for a very long time, and now I am the proud owner of two!
This is the newest member of my collection, and my first video from our new house. This is a RCA Victor Stereo Orthophonic High Fidelity Console Model: SHC-2, equipped with chassis: RC-1168C. This unit is equipped with fourteen tubes, they are as follows: 6CB6, 6X8, 6BA6, (2)6AU6, 6AL5, 6AV6, 6AL7GT, (3)6CG7, (2) 6V6GT, 5AS4A.
I love these things, wish I had one for every room, this is an awesome looking, and sounding vintage piece of tube history. I would like to know what these things sold for when they were new.
I traveled about two hours south of me to pick this one up. I stumbled across this piece looking around on "Craigslist". The very nice lady whom I purchased this from stated that it had belonged to her mother, but it no longer played.
Folks, I have messed with these old radio's for many years now, and I have to say that never ever before have I ever found so many bad resistors in any one chassis at any one time ever! Resistors that were just open, no resistance at all, and several that were thousands of ohms out of tolerance. None of these resistors showed any signs of heat, or damage of any kind, their color codes were still bright, and they really looked as new, but they were shot.
All defective, and out of tolerance resistors were replaced the electrolytic filters, and all bypass capacitors as well. All of the pots, and switches received a good cleaning, and lubricated where needed. A test of the tubes revealed several defective tubes, so all f these were replaced to include a fresh matched pair of 6V6GTA tubes to drive the audio. I replaced all of the lamps, and this piece has many, two for the dial, one for the knobs in the front, one for the record changer, and one for the ornamental emblem front center bottom of the cabinet. This thing came to life with beautiful sound.
I am not quite through with the record changer, I removed it, cleaned on it some, lubricated the motor, and replaced the motor mount grommets, I am going to have to send the idler, and turrets off and have the rubber replaced as it has aged, and begun to crack. A test of the cartridge proved one channel out so it was replaced with a NOS EV133. This particular RCA record changer uses the following cartridges: RCA: RMP200-2, Electrovoice: EV133, EV133D, Astatic: 477, 477D
Offered here today for your You Tube enjoyment please enjoy: Rod Stewart from the album "Every Picture Tells a Story" singing: Maggie May.
Thanks for checking out my channel, Cheers!!!
Any idea what this is worth?

@cleanwatch These generally bring more value compared to other consoles, I think A lot of collectors like these particular RCA consoles. I love these, wish I had one for every room! An exact value, I really don't know I have heard of folks buying them for little of nothing as well as seen them priced up at $500 or better.
