eco-KALAN-C (commercial size) and eco-Magic Box Demonstrations and Presentations were given to 49 Elementary Schools on April 26, 28 & 30, 2010 and on May 7 &15, 2010 in preparation for their use in the schools' "Free Noon Meal" Feeding Program re-commencing in June 2010. The pilot schools are in the Province of Negros Oriental, Philippines, namely Canla-on (1), Ayungon (31), Tayasan (1), Sibulan (1), Mabinay (2), Zamboanguita (1), and Santa Catalina North (12). The partners in these demonstrations and presentations are Kees & Rebecca Arrieta Vermeer of the eco-KALAN Project; Department of Education, Region 7, Central Visayas, Division of Negros Oriental under Dr. Maria Milagros Velez; and the 302nd Infantry (Achiever) Brigade of the Philippine Army under Col Luiz Manuel Ochotorena. The eco-Magic Box cooks without fire - it cooks with the heat retained in the pot. The combined use of the eco-Kalan-C and eco- Magic Box in the schools' feeding program leads to highly significant fuel savings; much shorter cooking time using firewood; no burnt or uncooked rice problems; and large volumes of food being cooked with so little firewood and time.
