Expedition to the Ringed Planet
Cassini Explores Saturn, Its Rings, and the Fountains of Enceladus
Presenter: Carolyn Porco
Tuesday, May 08, 2007

Since its arrival and insertion into orbit around Saturn in 2004, the Cassini spacecraft has been providing an unprecedented look at the planet, its rings, and its moons. Images and other data from Cassini have revealed surprising details about Saturn's atmospheric storms, the structure of its rings, the intricate geologic patterns on its moons, and even present day geologic activity.

Carolyn Porco will be our tour guide through the amazing Saturn system, presenting what Cassini has uncovered over the last three years on and around this beautiful ringed giant.

Carolyn Porco is the Cassini Imaging Team Leader, the Director of the Cassini Imaging Central Laboratory for Operations (CICLOPS) at the Space Science Institute in Boulder, Colorado, and adjunct Professor at both the Universities of Arizona and Colorado.

  • @maugustyniak No. I'm a Empiricist.

  • @wavepsychic Are you a physicist?

  • @theblackstarorder About the Hexagon on Saturn. It's Electromagnetic or electrically charged. This lady doesn't know anything about plasma. They think Space is all about gravity and collisions. Period.

Also the jets of water vapor from Enceladus... That's just plasma. There is no water. The discharge as Enceladus tries to seek EM equilibrium with Saturn is heating Enceladus's pole. But don't try to tell her that. She doesn't want to believe it.

  • Love her! The real life Ellie Arroway :-)

  • I agree. This phenomenon has never been seen anywhere in the known universe. I have seen some discussion of it by scientists, but mostly it is the tin foil hat set who have taken hold of this. The lack of talk about it in this lecture seems very odd to me.

  • What about the 4-Earth-wide hexagon in the clouds? Kind of a big deal... I'd be interested in a better explanation of that. Cymatic? Electromagnetic? Gravitational? Obviously it's some kind of wave or resonance is causing it. With all our contemporary science that's all she can say? You'd think scientists would want to try and explain it. I mean seriously, it's 4 Earths wide...
