NC6000 have a very common problem with MAXIM 1987. It is easily fixed with specialized tools. I didn't want to go out and buy $200 hot air soldering station so i bought a $10 torch.

I shield the chip with folded up aluminium foil and heat up each side until the solder melts. This is almost impossible to notice. I went by gut feeling.

Before doing the above I played a little bit with a piece of solder on wooden block to find out what it takes to melt it.

The chip has been re flowed and laptop works flawlessly now.

  • I saw a similar video in German using a similar technique. i used a butane powered flex lighter and it did the trick. In fact I am watching this video from the motherboard I fixed. Went around all four sides of the Maxium chip. I used canned air to cool down both sides of the motherboard put her back together and WAHLA!

Thanks for the video! It helped!
