the banking fiasco happend because of legislation passed in 1996 by the Dem and slick willie lowering the requirements to hand out mortgages to those who couldn't afford to pay them.

@iskunk7734 You need to go back a little further in history. The Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) was enacted in 1974 by President Ford. As it was written, the act basically forced banks to issue mortgages to nearly everyone or fear government scrutiny over discrimination. Slick WIlly's administration didn't help matters out at all, but they didn't start the fire. (and no, I'm not a slick willy fan)
