An invitation for Pat Robertson and John Shelby Spong to join us at the Big Tent Christianity celebration this September (BigTentChristianity.com). Or is there, according to these gentlemen, no longer anything that Christians share in common? And a challenge to Stephen Colbert to have Brian McLaren and me make this invitation from the Colbert Report -- whether seriously or for comic effect (or both).
I am of two minds about this proposal.
1) I think it is far worse if Pat Robertson and John S Spong agreed about a definition of Christianity than if they could I think disagreement is the foundation for determining what is and isn't true, particularly on the topic of religion (where almost nobody is speaking from a knowledge/evidence basis).
2) I suspect Robertson won't take the bait although I'd love to see Spong wipe the floor with Robertson's charlatanism.

@mindzwitness That's a perceptive answer. That you say your word gently speaks for itself.

If religion is man-made, it makes PERFECT sense that each person envisions a different version of their divine tale. The only difference between a religion and a neurosis...a religion is MORE POPULAR!
