I never close the lid either.I just found a nice 193 in Paris for no money.ebay number;270229016563 I'm happy to have a huge re-entrant again, I sold my 202 to a Japanese collector.One should never sell a collectible like this.I think I'll still play it when I'm 85 ;-)

I have to a old gramophone. But this one soundsif the band is in your room. But myn gramophone is of 1914 that one around 1930, when is came on the market. great!!!

you should "close the lid whilst playing" ;-)
love the HMV202 make sure you thight all the screws very well,also behind the woodboard in the back ! that way you get super bass

Yeh.. I know I SHOULD, but I hardly ever do. It does sound a lot better closed. Less surface noise & treble is never a bad thing with these old machines. I think I've only closed it twice in my video's :-(
A near 30 yr habits hard for me to break I guess.I've always been a lazy lid closer.
Besides, I don't want to wear out the hinges LOL.
