Neil deGrasse Tyson: Atheist or Agnostic?

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson claims the title "scientist" above all other "ists." And yet, he says he is "constantly claimed by atheists." So where does he stand? "Neil deGrasse, widely claimed by atheists, is actually an agnostic."

Let me get this straight; you say Michio Kaku and Stephan Hawking are close minded because they don't theorize God could be in a higher dimension? What theoretical physicist would try to create a scientific theory on something that already has no evidence to exist and cannot be proven to exist? (and also if they want to keep their job)

Mm no.... they don't do that because they're not Theists. I'm actually at a loss as to how or why you feel a dimensional theory with mathematical justification somehow translates to an "entity" with various attributes, so I'm going to assume you're referring to pantheism. In which case, what's the point?

People kill each over many things. Do not be silly to assume that not embracing God or Religion would decrease the murder count. 'GOD' does not have to be an entity in the skies, people have worshipped the sun for centuries and have assumed all kinds of political labels, it is ideaology that kills and ultimately human selfisness none that will be eliminated by the removal of the concept of GOD, unless you would have people stop thinking that is, afterall difference of opinion is what kills.

Atheism mean's you believe that 0 god's exist, agnostic/gnostic, weak/strong, negative/positive whichever subset you choose determines how you count that belief to be knowledge. If you feel you know there is no god's, your gnostic atheist, if you don't believe in any god's, however you don't know if there actually is or is not any then your agnostic atheist. It is pretty simple.

He may rather not be categorised as anything, but that doesn't mean words are meaningless. Atheism means non-belief in a god, not that a god doesn't exist. He IS an atheist, regardless of how many people would interpret that. Not defining and agreeing on definitions makes conversations harder.

lets use dr. kaku and dr. hawking for example, both proud atheists... they believe in the existence of higher dimensions, or at least they spend a good amount of their lives making sense of them. which will never happen. they could theorize god as the highest dimension but they do not because they are closed minded atheists.
