Kate Royal - Midsummer Night (HD)

Kate Royal's second recording for EMI Classics is Midsummer Night, an atmospheric recital collection focusing on female characters in 20th century opera and operetta, reflecting their pain and ecstasy in love. The programme ranges from well known turn-of-the-century works by Dvořák (Song to the Moon from Rusalka) and Lehár (Vilja from The Merry Widow) to Midsummer Night, from William Alwyns opera Miss Julie. Edward Gardner conducts the English National Opera Orchestra with guest appearances by Thomas Allen, Andrew Staples and the Crouch End Festival Chorus.

I picked up this cd this past weekend - it is pure magic. Ms. Royal's eloquent and creamy timbre and Mr. Gardner sensative command of the orchestra partner beautifully to present portraits so intricate and detailed but yet so smooth. This disc introduced me to Alwyn's MISS JULIE with its liquid tonalities and to the waltzlike selection from Messager's MONSIEUR BEAUCAIRE, both enchantingly sung.

Major thumbs up for this new release.

What a fantastically smooth, dynamic, warm voice she has...takes my breath away! I wish she would come to Florida while on tour! She's simply AMAZING...so poised and eloquent! I love listening to her describe the arias and characters.

Kate is more than a stunning and beautiful voice, she has magnetism, grace and charm and could have been a model ! I feel we are in the presence of a a truly remarkable artist.
