There are several beaches that are spectacular on the grounds (the grounds are huge, btw). No driving required, though you may want to rent a car and drive around the Island one day as Trunk Bay and others are absolutely gorgeous. Also, you will want to eat in town most nights (cheap open-air cabs are there waiting to take people into town for dinner, its the "thing" to do). The Caneel rooms are "old-ish" but the property is fantastic.

20 seconds. This room was just above "honeymoon beach", if I recall the name.
There are a half-dozen beaches there and you could shuttle to others (large peninsula) and all were worth visiting. But the premium ocean view rooms were very close to the water.
