Part 4 of 6. Relive an inside look at the 1964/65 New York World's Fair in this NBC TV Special from 1964 "A World's Fair Diary", with Edwin Newman. See Edwin take you on a first hand tour of the inside of many attractions featured in the fair. He tends more towards the off-the-beaten-path attractions moreso than the mainstays, but he gets a great glimpse of what was a once-in-a-lifetime event.
Sorry for the crappy quality. It was obviously shot in Eastmancolor. ;(
@hormelinc Where is this happening? In NYC the museums are same as they ever were, if a little expensive, except for the Met which is still pay what you wish. But the paintings and sculptures generally are not encased in anything nor behind glass. Guards are present because of course some people cannot understand that you don't smear your grimy fingers across a Rembrandt or Van Gogh.

Wow, Picasso paintings in the open! With no bullet proof glass. And no 10 foot barriers! And no SWAT team standing next to them! This was the way to appreciate art. No wonder I don't go to museums anymore. I feel like I'm walking through San Quentin Prison, with each painting inside a locked cell, and the prison guards watching over me on the "catwalk". Might as well put the damn paintings in Fort Leavenworth and close the museums.

Right, well where are you going? To the worlds fare or local carnival? Don't be absurd...

Then the learned that handing out medicine like "candy" is a HORRIBLE and stupid thing to do.

@swampwatch yes, I noticed, but look at the size of the portions served, no super big gulps in those days, and Doctors then handed out diet pills like candy,

I'm taken back ... by the lack of obese/over-weight people ... Boy the difference 47 years makes ... Also the lack of rude and obnoxious tourist ... It's hard to travel anywhere in the States these days ... and find courteous and polite people with manners.

A whole, deep fried soft shell crab on a bun. Delicious, but those waffles were unbelievably good. There's a truck called Waffles and Dinges in NYC that sells waffles made with the same recipe as the ones sold in the Belgian Village at the fair. They're every bit as good as I remember!
