Shepherd's Hey by Percy Grainger (LMC '08 Band 1)

This is a video of the 1st band from the High School Longhorn Music Camp at the University of Texas performing "Shepherd's Hey" (English Morris Dance) by Percy Grainger under the direction of Dr. Robert Carnochan at out final concert. This was our 3rd piece of 4.

You may notice that the after the hold near the end, we start playing much slower and then do a large accelerando to the climax. People are generally unfamiliar with this interpretation, but it is actually based on a recording of Percy Grainger himself performing the piece on the piano.

I played Tenor Saxophone in this piece.

@11armand24 The camp is a lot of fun. I went as an incoming freshman, so it was the 1st time i had played with a decent band, really. if you haven't gone before, it's worth it just to check it out.

I just recently saw the US Marine band, and I noticed that the brass section alone had the flutes and clarinets outnumbered by almost double. My point is that if played out correctly, the high woodwinds can easily sing out over the brass. It's all about projection.
