The first 16 bit Phantasy Star made use of both topdown world phase and 1st person dungeons (like the master system Phantasy star 1) and one really good plot.

  • this is a real game. new games are made to be beaten in 2 days. gamers now days have no idea what a challanging game is. its all shit.

  • IT would have been so cool if this had also been an anime series back in the late 80s or very early nineties. It's too late now... because even if they made one now, it would suffer from the current trends of anime art direction and storytelling. siiighhh..........

  • Ah god, I remember playing this game way back when. They have it on the xbox marketplace for 400 points. Getting it.

  • @KarateCopEX Yes Yes yes. PS2 isnt the greatest but we who beat it are the greatest. I beat the fucker without cheating. I grinded and my young mind was ablaze with frustration. That puts me above. If you havnt beaten Phantasy Star 2 then you are not on my level.

  • @shiloushilou Without state saves if you die the game sends your ass all the way back to town. Then you have to fight your way back to the dungeon and fight your way through to the boss. Having checkpoints and stuff like that is nice but when I would finally beat bosses in PS 2 I would jump around like I just shat a golden egg. I beat games now days and hardly even remember what the game was about.

  • @externalpower

Actually I would agree... I think exactly the same... But it's weird I play phantasy star 2 the other day and I did not find it as hard as when I was young... maybe thanks to the emulator save system... I do think the memory card and autosave systems coming with the playstation generation killed games...

  • Phantasy Star 2 is still my favorite in the series. Wish they'd make a real hardcore big budget remake of this.

  • The atmosphere's and the music in this game combined to make such a futuristic feel, even now. And that intro, the dialog + the music, man, you can just feel the sorrow and emptiness as he sits there in bed. I've been there...

    What a great RPG.

  • I still play this game. It is on my top 5 of all time...I love the music, the gameplay, and the sheer simplicity (not to be confused with ease) of it. It came with a small map book that was ESSENTIAL back then. Sigh...those days are long gone. sniff

  • I played this back in early 1990, great game!

  • Its not ALL shit, but I do agree that the majority of new games are too easy.

  • I loved this game, it was very hard but a lot of fun. Thanks for posting this.
