Me shooting in the 2009 All Army Shooting Competition Combat pistol (novice class)-

my second time actually in a competition, and first time with a Beretta 92/M9- I have short thumb so manipulating the safety on the rear of the slide and reaching the mag release were difficult for me-
this video is probably one of the best to show my draw from the crappy issue bianchi holster and reload but hitting the slide release on reload and getting the safety slowed me down-

things to note is the female beside me having trouble with the SA/DA trigger on that first pull and biting the dirt with the first round-

  • how did you do?

  • I did the 2nd best on our team, but was terrible overall compared to west point etc-

  • Why are you wearing a helmet to a competition?

  • It was the All Army Shooting Competition, shooters were required to wear full uniform (as per AR670-1), kevlar/mich/ach, and vest/plate carrier (with IFAK and mag carriers), and holster throughout the entire competition-

  • A few tips, if you care for them:

-Use your left to pull up the flap, then right to draw.

-Carry the 92 safety off, hammer down if you can. Then, you only need to pull the trigger on the draw.

-Possibly squeeze the trigger as you draw to take up slack, by full presentation, the pull will be shorter.

-Try to drop your mag and reach for the loaded one simultaneously.

-Try using your left hand thumb for the slide release, I find it easier on some pistols.

  • That's too bad. I just shot at a Marine Corps division competition. Fun stuff. Luckily we didn't have to wear all that gear. During the competition we shot one handed - for qualification we shoot two handed.
