@ganjislammer the monastry 'is' a place where many came together to learn and exchange and there 'are' many different contributors,so much for research lol. As for prevailing against the likes of Grandmasters Wong and Yiu with a weapon, you would be "sorely"(pardon the pun) dissapointed, iv'e had the honour of training with such men for almost 20 yrs, and have seen (not read about) first hand their skills, but hey, i'm just a lowly student, visit a school and ask for a "friendly spar",good luck!

@olmate1000 I think there is too much myth behind the "shaolin" monks. They arn't actually a group of monks who all do a certain fighting style. The monastary was a place where many different people came as they traveled. Like u said, if u do a little research u can see lol. I'm not saying any of them are bad though o.O but to say u cant beat some1 even with a weapon is just ignorant, like u said :O

@ganjislammer Now come on mate!, The shaolin monks were given the lands for their temple by the emperor after their courageous efforts on his behalf against foreign invaders, with weapons, greatly outnumbered, this is historical fact, not legend. and to question the validity of the skills of men like Grandmasters Wong and Yiu demonstrates ignorance in the extreme,you wouldn't prevail against them even with a weapon.Do a little research first mate, or better yet, go to Grandmaster Wong's website.

@olmate1000 But when people say "fighting on the battlefields" its obviously during wars, and great battles WITH weapons. The only thing i dont like about grandmasters is, as much as i respect most of them, you dont know whos telling the truth or not. There was always so much myth behind kung fu and never actual proof. Oh wells, to each its own i guess. cya

@ganjislammer Kung fu was originally developed as an empty hand system, weapons came after, I just read a compilation by Grandmaster Doc Fai Wong regarding many encounters with street thugs in the Hong Kong region when he was young, including one against 6 opponents, 2 of which were armed, in which he prevailed with only minor injuries, my own teacher,Grandmaster Tien Sun Yiu also describes rooftop battles which resulted in death, to say that it only works with weapons is folly, peace out.
