  • was there with my mum aged 81. she just died and this will play at mum's funeral. Emmylou has the voice of an angel, yes. and i and my beloved mum thank her. is this recording on a cd?

  • There's no official DVD or CD of Emmy @ Cambridge FF 2006.

If it's of special significance, can rip and and email you source quality stereo mp3 audio of the bits broadcast.

Commiserations on the loss of your mother.

  • Oh ... just your average Emmylou -> meaning: It merely goes from absolutely gorgeous to soooo moving that you're left nearly stunned. Two amazing songs sung by ... well ... Emmylou Harris. Need more be said?

I think that even more so than the beautiful "quality" of her voice is the "soul" that resonates within it. A soul that seems to know intimately pain, wisdom, AND peace.

Thanks for this great vid post! And Thanks to Emmylou!!!

    Cheers!

  • ...you're tearing my heart out Emmyloo...

  • bellissima

  • une très très grande artiste avec une voix qui donne des frissons dans le dos....

  • Pretty damned good. Beautiful sound, beautiful woman.

  • exquisite! more delicate and elegant than the studio recording, but just as powerful.

i bought the cd when it first came out and listened to it for many months...

i still put it on ten years later...what a great gift she has and how she uses it...

  • Agree, sweet!

  • @mabewa Its obviously SET in the American South, but is not about there. It reminds you of your past, as it does me, who grew up in a suburb, but who in this small country was never that far away from the rural. A story of lost hopes and limited horizons is pretty universal, and that is where her skill lies, in making the particular speak to us all. Are we done agreeing? :-)

  • What gets me is that the song is obviously written about the American South, but I'm from rural Washington State, and this song reminds me of so many people I grew up with. It's a heartbreaking story that also rings completely true to me.

  • @mabewa I agree! If this were writing it would be a novel, or a least a short story, not a blog or magazine opinion piece nor a political pamphlet: it is a reportage rather than sociology, a snapshot rather than a documentary.

Whatever, I like this song because it makes me cry, and that takes skill.

  • Absolutely perfect!!!!!

  • Vocally this is the best version I've heard, but the drums make this song. Just didn't sound right without them.
