Thank you. Finally someone understands the cruial flaw to the "glowing tomato".
Chlorine an Peroxide do glow on their own. Bleach is too diluted. (All it does is fizz when mixed. No glow.) The phosphorous makes it react more violently . The gases released in either version are dangerous.

it'll work... but you need white phosphorous, not red. white phosphorous no longer exists in matches made today though, they were deemed hazardous. white phosphorous ignites at 30C (which gives the glow) and the oxygen from hydrogen peroxide assists it.

What's the concentration of your hydrogen peroxide? I tried with 3%- same reaction- nothing. Somewhere I saw that a 30% solution was used. BTW do it outside- you get a lot of toxic chlorine gas!

thanks, i didnt waste my time to make a fake glowing tomato
i want to see a glowing tomato
so you think its totally fake? :( because i really believe its posible because glowing sticks have a similar chemical reaction.

Ah, you must not have watched the experiment, look it up on my page. It didn't work. The chemicals in glowsticks are not what are used in the tomato. Glowsticks use hydrogen peroxide and Cyalume, a glowing chemical. Bleach and match heads aren't anywhere near the same thing. It's a hoax.
