Joe Williams was one of the last of the great big band singers (along with Sinatra and a few others) who was still performing and recording well into the 1990's. Joe recorded some significant work with a "rejuvenated" Count Basie Orchestra during the 1950's, and "Thou Swell" is a great example.
The first time I saw him was when he played Bill Cosby's father-in-law on his show in the 80's. He sang on that episode too.
