Here's my stock engine '95 Miata running in an Intermediate HPDE group
at Firebird Raceway - East Track near Phoenix. The handling was really
well hooked up at this event and even with my good buddy Rod in the
passenger seat I could still keep up with many cars on the track and stay
out of the way of the really fast ones. This is a fun little track that
is great fun to drive because one can push pretty hard because there is
really nothing to hit if the car goes off the pavement. This video is a very good example of the commonly heard adage that one does not necessarily need big hp to have a great time at the track. I have maybe $8K invested in my stock-engine 130 hp track/street car and it has pretty much the same corner speeds as the fastest street cars I encounter on tracks in AZ and southern-CA; and damn, is it ever fun to drive on the track.
