General Karl Eikenberry, former Commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan, has said "Much of the enemy force is drawn from the ranks of unemployed men looking for wages to support their families." Jobs for Afghans is lobbying Congress to create alternatives to fighting for the Taliban. The Taliban is unpopular but it pays a wage in a country where unemployment is 40%. The group advocates a financially accountable program of cash-for-work projects which puts money directly into the hands of the poorest of Afghans. There are thousands of projects which would require only hand tools. Go to http://jobsforafghans.org

Thank you! I hope you do well on your mission. I'd like to mention that it is very true that companies like Bechtel get paid instead of the people to rebuild projects. So most of the money is sent to these contractors. Example, a road was to be built for in Kabul. Estimated cost $300,000.000. The U.S. gave the contract to Becktel for $1million. Becktel paid a Pakistani company $300,000.00 for the project. Pakistani contractor paid a small afghan company $100,000 to do the job. LOL..WTF
