Happy Hippie Christian

This is a video response to "Jesus ain't no hippie" by the Winterband. Here's a letter I sent along to the band:

"In 1 Cor. 11:14, Paul says that men shouldnt have long hair. Thus the hippie problem. Then why do you wear a hat? 1 Cor 11;7 says, A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God. If you are going to follow the law, follow the whole law. But, you are NOT saved by law, you are saved by grace, so why do you judge your brothers who are also not under law? Im a hippie and a sister. I think Jesus was closer to a hippie than a redneck. Who are you to judge your brother, man? You prove that your eyes are full of logs.
Hippies take a stand for peace, conservatives and rednecks take stands for war. Jesus was outspoken against the religious leaders, and so His leaders. Conservatives only speak out against leaders who try to feed the poor. Hippies are generally not materialistic, while conservatives lean more toward the accumulation of wealth. Jesus did not aquire wealth and He is our example. In fact, He said give us this day our DAILY bread, do not aquire treasure on earth, and on and on. Jesus commanded us to love our neighbor - I find hippies to be 100% more accepting of everyone, I find conservatives, esp white men, to be often racist.
Liberals support causes for the poor, they support a more even distribution of wealth, conservatives tend to oppose social programs and favor tax cuts for the rich. Resulting in 20% of Americans owning 84% of America's wealth and the remaining 80% of us getting the last 16% to share. That is NOT a picture Jesus would support. Conservatives supported the war in Iraq - hippies opposed it. It cost 1 trillion $, killed 100,000 - 1 million people (we don't count) and WAS NOT ON GOD'S AGENDA. War NEVER fits with the teachings of Jesus, it IS predation. Hippies are more likely to repect their bodies by eating natural food, never eating processed or fast food. Jesus didn't EVER support the traditions of men, he supported Loving God and loving your neighbor as yourself, a skill I see hippies are profoundly better at than conservative white men.
On the whole, Jesus WAS closer to a hippie than a redneck. I have devoted my life to feeding the hungry and sharing the Truth of Jesus, and I am a hippie from Santa Cruz, ca. Maybe your song is a joke. Sounds more to me like you just think you are holy enough to judge your brothers. Maybe you think no one with long hair can know God. Or, maybe you just didn't think, but your are representing Jesus to the world, you are His ambassadors, so work hard at getting your scripture right, because we are HIs hands and His mouth in this place. No wonder Christians look like judgemental hypocrites when they dress up in silly costumes and make fun of other people, then say - hey you better be like us or you're going to hell. Please rethink your ideas, you are causing harm."
Their answer, "You write the words of a very ignorant lost soul. I really pity you." and "You are false-christian scum."
