WTF do you think the whole "appeasement" thing was about? Its so obvious, its the whole "when two fight, the third wins." Play two rival forces against each other and you win. Get Germany to fight Russia and get rid of both.

@laroucheyouth, It was the Soviets who came to the British for help; they had no one else to go too. Conversely, it was a well considered inevitability that the National Socialists and the Communists would go to War first because Germany wanted an Empire of its own and Lebensraum was only in the East - not because Britain wanted to increase theirs.
Stop trying to manipulate history for your own goals.

@laroucheyouth, That's complete nonsense, Hitler and the Stalin made a pax to divide up Eastern Europe, but with Operation Barbarossa the Third Reich double crossed the Soviets. There's plenty of old footage shot with Russian and German soldiers together in Poland before 22 June celebrating together and testimonials from Polish people as well to collaborate this fact. Stalin trusted Hitler and wanted to share the world with him - nothing to do with Britain.

The policy was to induce a war between the USSR and Germany, destroying both nations. There was the famous case of the Hitler supporter King Edward VIII, but also you have to look at the role of Hjalmar Schacht in creating Hitler.
The shift in British policy came when the Nazi's struck West first, instead of East.
