This music is aria 'Lascia ch'io pianga' (Let me weep), from opera Rinaldo (HWV 7) (1711, London), by George Frideric Handel. Sung by Cecilia Bartoli, an Italian mezzo-soprano.

Performed by Academy of Ancient Music (a famous baroque ensemble on original instruments).
Directed by Christopher Hogwood.

[Italian]
Lascia ch'io pianga
mia cruda sorte,
e che sospiri la libertà.

Il duolo infranga queste ritorte
de' miei martiri sol per pietà

[English translation]
Let me weep
my cruel fate,
and let me sigh for liberty.

May sorrow break these chains
Of my sufferings, for pity's sake.

  • I thought I recognized Bartoli and indeed I did! I remember training this song back when I took singing lessons
