Biodiesel is a fuel made of animal fats, vegetable oils and algae. It is CO2 neutral, biodegradable, nontoxic and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics. It is made through a chemical process called transesterification whereby the glycerin is separated from the fat or oil. The process leaves behind two products: methyl esters (the chemical name for biodiesel) and glycerin.
Anyone can be easily made biodiesel at home. All you needs is an open space or adequately ventilated space, the right amounts of fat or oil (even used oil will suffice), methanol, lye, canisters, scale and protecting glasses and gloves.
Think green! Drive green! Drive your diesel car on biodiesel! Try it! Make it!
