Waking up in the middle of the day, out checking my dear little poppies, what wonderful divine plant, God's own medicine. I smile and I ... todos » drink my opium tea. Poppy tea, opiates, papaver somniferum, morphine, drugs, cowboys, countryside, farmers, farming, gardening, flowers, botany, documentary, nick cave and the bad seeds, poppy pods, opium poppy plant, plant of joy, not smoking opium, but rather drinking or eating it, mmm nothing as good as opium poppy salad for breakfast with some fresh poppy tea warm or cold, but kids dont try cook it into heroin or anything like that, you'll get in trouble, actually its illegal to do anything with it except for smelling the flowers or using it for decorations and such, no consumption. But of course, living in a third world country like myself, that's a different story. Cheers

Ever heard the saying "its not the size that matters" ?

And, to be clear, I did not grow these , they are wild and grow around here on their own.

But, I can tell you that one or two pods are enough to get a nice buzz.

I eat them, its nice tasty and good route of adminstration for me, too messy smokin etc.

Actually, Papaver Somniferum (opium poppy) is illegal to cultivate in the USA but alot of little ol' ladies have them in their gardens and unless you have a half acre growing or some law enforcement see's you cutting the pods to harvest the opium you'll probably be OK, but why risk it? You'd need a hundred plants just to get a lousy gram.

when you grow Papaver somniferum, first theres the raw opium (liquid) the second step is to make it into a pressed form to smoke, the thrid step is to extract morphine. and the last thing you could do with it is then make herion. so your saying if i grew 100 plants, id get ony a gram of raw opium (brown liquid) ?

No thats complete crap, a few plants can yield a gram of opium in its raw state. Maybe 5-10 pods if they are good with lots of lates, perhaps less, depends.

You need 3 to 5 pods for a decent buzz if making tea, or simply eating them. One plant alone can produce several pods. So no you dont need hundreds of plants. And if you have really potent ones, even 1-2 pods can be enough, and you can scrape the latex several times by cutting at different times of day in different places on the pod and harvest quite a lot from each pod, if you intend to smoke it. Mix it in with a little cigarette.

@mrgreenthumb2611 Your pods are most likely Papaver somniferum varietas giganteum. His are highly probably „Flanders poppy/corn rose poppy“ Papaver rhœas [the second possibility is another small „Greek“ red coloured, Papaver dubium.] I LOVE ALL POPPIES! Go purchase yours from Horizon Herbs® [if you live in the west of North America] & Pure Land Ethnobotanicals [if you live in the East of North America.]

@jenn1ifer no obviously not as i said 1 good plant can have 5 pods ...which in a season can bring up to 10 g of pure opium ...what you do with it after that ..well thats your business ...i,ve been growing for years ...aquired my seed from a farmer nearby [midnight raid a la bonnie style] who grew under liscence for the pharma industry ..so top product ..havent had a paracetemol/tylenol in some 10 years now ..mother nature takes care of those that take care of her ,i,ve found ..try it !!

@sumjustguy 100 plants per gram ?? dont know what sort of plants you are growing but ...1 good plant a 5-7 pods gets u anything up to 10 -15 grams ....IF youh know what you,re doing ...it seems you dont !!
